In his thesis he investigated how different imaging techniques, namely interferometric SAR (InSAR), polarimetric SAR interferometry (Pol-InSAR), polarimetric tomography (Pol-TomoSAR) and LIDAR waveforms can be combined in order to invert forest structural parameters. Not only the combination of the imaging techniques have been explored but also the benefit on using multi-frequency was investigated. For example it could be shown that using Lidar waveform derived eigenbasis and introduce them into the X-band for forest height inversion model the height inversion is more accurate as using only X-band. This work becomes important in respect to the new ESA’s mission in the Copernicus as well as for the Earth Explorer programme where a combination of different imaging techniques and frequencies will be an advantage for bio/geophysical parameter estimation.
