New publications on Sea Ice Elevation in the Western Weddell Sea, Antarctica
This work presents a method to retrieve sea ice elevations based on satellite synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery over old and rough sea ice in the Weddell Sea.
The impact of the drought in agriculture and how Radar can monitor the condition
The TV channel SAT1 in Germany was transmitting a report about how airborne radar observations and electromagnetic modelling can monitor the moisture condition over agricultural regions.
New publication on quantifying the carbon mobilization by abrupt permafrost thaw on the northern Taymyr Peninsula in Siberia
With climate change, Arctic hillslopes above ice-rich permafrost are vulnerable to enhanced carbon mobilization. In this work elevation change estimates generated from satellite observations reveal a substantial acceleration of carbon mobilization on the Taymyr Peninsula in Siberia between 2010 and 2021. The strong increase occurring in 2020 coincided with a severe Siberian heatwave and highlights that carbon mobilization can respond sharply and non-linearly to increasing temperatures.
New publication on coherent backscatter enhancement of radio waves in snow
This Open Access publication in the journal The Cryosphere is the first to characterize the coherent backscatter opposition effect for the Earth's snow cover with bistatic radar experiments from ground and from space.
