Old meets new - Hornschlitten-borne KAPRI

While continuing our long-term measurement campaign in Davos, this winter's thick snow cover posed a challenge for our ability to efficiently move the radar into the desired acquisition positions. To overcome this problem, we took inspiration from the centuries-old method of material transport over the difficult Alpine terrain - the Hornschlitten.

After acquiring a Hornschlitten kindly lent to us by the ETH Glaciology group, the ETH's skilled woodworking technicians quickly adapted the sledge's platform for mounting of our KAPRI radar tower. This allowed us to greatly reduce the time needed to move the radar between individual measurement positions, and thus increase the quantity of acquired data over the course of the campaign. Many thanks to everyone involved!
