Twin glacier collapse in Tibet

Giant ice avalanches caused by catastrophic glacier failures are rare events. The collapse of two neighbouring glaciers within two months – as just witnessed in Tibet – was never seen before. The timely analysis of satellite images enabled scientists to issue a warning prior to the second collapse. Read more 


Winter campaign in Davos is concluded!

An innovative campaign for the measurement of polarimetric and interferometric response of snow at Ku-band has been performed in Davos, from January to April 2016. Read more 


Glacier surge and lake outburst observed by TanDEM-X, Sentinel 1A and LandSat 8.

An entire cycle of the periodic instability forming a surging glacier could be observed by TanDEM-X, Sentinel-1A and LandSat 8 satellite data in an excellent interdisciplinary work of Vanessa Round. Read more
